Privacy policy
Last updated: September 2026
The short version
LakePulse Canada has no user accounts, no sign-up, and no personal-data database. Anything you personalize — saved lakes, your sailor profile, wind alerts — is stored in your own browser’s localStorage and never leaves your device. Clearing your browser data erases it completely.
What happens when you use the site
- Live condition requests. Pages fetch wind from Open-Meteo, water data from ECCC, radar from RainViewer, and launch/marina data from OpenStreetMap/Overpass. These requests come from your browser directly to those services — we do not proxy them, so those providers see your IP address under their own privacy policies, not ours.
- Location (only if you ask). The Discover page and distance sort use your browser’s geolocation API when — and only when — you click the button. Your coordinates are used in-memory to rank lakes and are never stored or transmitted anywhere.
- Browser notifications. Wind alerts use your browser’s notification permission. Checking happens inside your browser; there is no push server and no message content ever passes through us.
Cookies and tracking
We set no cookies and run no analytics, ad pixels, or third-party trackers. If advertising is added in the future, this page will be updated before it goes live, and non-essential scripts will be clearly labeled.
Your data, your controls
Saved lakes and alerts: remove them any time on the Saved page. Everything at once: clear site data in your browser settings. There is nothing to delete on our side because we never had it.
